I haven't seen hairy oak cross cut before.... I love it!!
(Also love the vertex with following octogon shape on the blank but can't justify the cost of a wizard for the 1 shape)
Cheers

Hi Gab,
Does your lathe have an indexing feature? Do you have a router? If yes to both questions, you don't need a wizard!!!!
Make a table that will go over and clear the blank, if you want to have it taper down on the ends, make the top to suit with a wide slot going away from you, as you'll be trimming the edge closest to you. The inside of the slot (the edge away from you) will be the finished shape of your pen. The top section will need a couple of slots, so that you've a bit of fine adjustment. You could make several tops for different designs.
Grab you router with a following chaser (or whatever they're called) and a router bit. Put the router in the slot and trim away to your hearts content, just keep an eye on the number of holes the indexing pin drops into, otherwise your pen will have different width flats. Start off with taking several small cuts, so that you'll be able to judge how the pen will look.
Hope this gives you the idea.
