    Default Happy with this one!

    Hi all,

So a quick show off and a question. This is a Jr Gent in segmented spurwood and jacaranda:

I'm pretty happy, but would be happier if when the top is fully screwed down (I loosened it a smidge for the photo), the top and body are grain matched... Well, in this case I intentionally switched direction of the top and bottom so the rings change direction, but I'd like the angle of the grain to match on both pieces.

Is there a good way of doing this? I was thinking I could assemble the body first, and then screw the bottom of the cap onto the body and assemble the cap with it installed on the body, but I'm not 100% sure I want to put pressure on the thread like that...

    Cheers,

    Danny

I assemble as you mention, but after I screw the cap bottom on, I line up the grain, push it a little so it goes on finger tight, then unscrew the cap and head off to the pen press. Works quite well for me.

Great job on the segmenting! !

    Cheers

This is my preferred style of pen, and you have made a ripper there! I reckon you will have to explain how it was made to non- turners quite a few times.
    Thanks for the inspiration,

    Alan...

The only problem I have found with the cap thread is that it has 2 start points. If the grain/pattern doesn't line up when the cap is screwed on, it is necessary to unscrew and turn to the other thread start and rescrew. A bit fiddly but works. Would be better it there was only 1 thread start point.

You'll find most cap pen kits have 3 or 4 start threads so only align from one of the starts. With 2 starts you have a fifty fifty chance of hitting it. To the OP. Beautiful pen.

really care for the style, making, display of your pen. Mating patterns is hit and miss some people like me always match on biro twist pens with the biro extended. when the chances are increased in a multi thread you are in a fix.
