Hard Oil Timber Finish for pens.
Hi all
I have been having a chat to a seriously ancient fellow here on the island about timber finishes. He said that in the OLD days (how long ago that is, I don't know) they used to let the timber for knife scales and dip pens soak in hard oil for one day, take the timber out and let that sit in the shed for 7 days, then turn the timber and polish it up. It never sweated oil when the timber got warm but stayed nice and shiny and became very personal with use like a pen or knife etc.
My question is "What would hard oil be and where can one get this today?"
I look forward to hearing from all the well informed folks out there. With kind regards and may the wood chips fly

Tru oil maybe? It gets used for gun stocks and guitar necks. I used some on a neck once and forgot to wipe off the excess and it went hard as a rock lol
