Hello Everybody
Hi everyone, I have been lurking around the place for quite some time. I have been making pens for a little while and this site has been a great source of information and inspiration.
I do enjoy making timber pens as well as casting my own resin blanks when I have a brainstorm or get an idea from somewhere else. I have had varied amounts of success, its a constant learning curve.
I will post some pics when I work out how to resize them. At the moment they are way too big.
So yeah finally thought I would bite the bullet and say g'day.

G'day Jim and welcome to the throng of the mutually deluded and slightly warped congregation of penturners.
The other forums are similarly inhabited so there is no escape!

Welcome to the zoo, John. I use the easy way to post pics; check your camera manual for file sizes and resolution. Should be an acceptable combination, unless it's a higher-end camera e.g. DSLR. In that case, I suggest your upload your pic to http://sitereportcard.com/imagereducer.php, and save the result(s) under new file name(s). This is the most painless for me.

can not help you with the photo size. I am a dunce, only press the buttons I have been told to press to get the right result.

Thanks for the welcome. After doing a bit of search around I think I have worked out this photo business. So here goes...
The Sierra is Lancewood finished with EEE and Shellawax, the Baron fountain in cross cut Zebrano finished like the Sierra, and the Flat Top American is coffee beans cast in resin (light blue pigment).
My casting methods are basic, however I have made some moulds up that give excellent blanks every time, they are re-usable and can be exposed to a fair amount of heat without any adverse effects. If you would like more info just let me know.

New Amazing Idea for NewBe's
Would not it be a great thing to forward this fine fellow with all the links that NewBe's ask (not this one!! He's got some fine work!):
1) What is the best finish
2) Whats Shellawax, EEE, and Rustins
3) How do you do a CA finish (without gagging)
4) Micro Mesh???
5) How do I sneek into the shop with out the wife ask'n "where ya going?"
6) How to budget for Penkits (Yeah Right!)
7) Who makes money selling pens ?
I asked all of these... LET THE ADDICTION CONTINUE!!!!!!! I know that they will have to pry the skew from my cold dead hands and wipe the dust from my face when I die!

John, could you post your pictures of how you cast, and the jig you have for it? Because, I really made a mess and need to improve with my casting. Amos

Amos - my first thought was that it looked a little like bocote. But, taking a closer look, it appears to have the large grain structure that zebrawood has. I can never get a good shine on that timber due to this porosity.
JiminIdaho - your number 5 is an easy one. I just tell the wife I'm going out to see my young mistriss. She is usually laughing too hard to stop me.When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.
