Ideas needed for mounting rest bar
Hi folks,
Wife makes pens for the fun of it, she is a member here on this forum and has competed in some of the pen comps here and over at the pen turners forum
She use to use a big wood lathe in the shed at home, but after one of the kids moved out of home she converted it into her room .
We purchased a smaller metal lathe which fits and works nicely, unfortunatley the cross slide and jig for the tool rest is big and bulky, wondering if someone has already done this and could throw us some pictures for ideas, so that way I can go and make or buy the part.
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve, going by pic number 6 if the vertical piece was removed and the piece that goes into the tool post was welded onto the part that supports the tool rest, that should just about do it. May need a bit more to drop it depending what feels comfortable.

Thanks kryn, I a m hoping to be able to remove the whole cross slide unit from between the tail support and chuck, with the cross slide in place it's very restrictive and IMO almost dangerous to use.
my thoughts were to move the cross slide behind the tail support and somehow connect the tool rest back on or remove the cross slide all together and fabricate a standard pivoting tool rest

Hi Steve,
If the tailstock was slid off, the locking plate, could be either modified so that it went between the rails, and twisted, or set up so that it required assembly each time it was required as a metal lathe. Slide the apron to the far left, and remove the top section, from memory there are 2 socket head bolts on the cross slide to remove the apron, that can stay there, then the top section can be removed after undoing 3? bolts on the back also.
