The Imperial in Black Titanium on Xcut Padouk
Thanks to Dave of Dangermouse for the Xcut Padouk, SWMBO said she liked the colour but prefers a smaller pen. Xcut needed several sharpenings and turned ok, but slowly, a small cut at a time. The Imperial kit is from CSUSA, and is said to have carved bamboo leaf patterns, the nib is a two tone 22k gold and rhodium with iridium point, the pen kit comes with a lifetime gtee, or maybe it is the nib that has the guarantee??!
The finish, two coats of Shellawax Glow, the wood is fairly porous so I choose to do that, then many coats of CA and BLO, with light sanding with Acrylic pads half way through, then final coat of thin CA and polished with plastic polish and showcar glaze as per Froggies instructions for snakeskin pens.
In presence it looks quite stately, hope you enjoy it, comments welcome, Amos

*Very* nice Amos!
Looks rather dramatic on that kit.
Good to see someone's having some success tonight - the screw up pixie is kicking my teeth in at the moment .Coffee, chocolate, women. Some things are better rich.

Padouk is one of my favourite timbers, shame getting decent lump of it is hard to get here. Love that kit Amos, how much was it and is there a minimum no. you have to order from CSUSA?

Thanks for your comments thus far, Neil, There is no minimum number to order, but if you order a certain amount you can get a small discount. From CSUSA pen their price varies from US$42 for Rhodium/Black Ti rollerball to US$62 for Rhodium 22k Gold fountain pen. then there is the conversion to Aussie dollars and postage around $30. No, not cheap at all. I prefer the gold 22k, but tried out the Rhodium/Black Ti, both are beautiful in their own setting. Amos

Very nice, Amos. Good looking kit. And red always looks good on a fountain pen.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

A mate for the Imperial-Xcut Padouk
Had to make a mate for the fountain pen and here is the Imperial in Xcut Padouk, Rhodium/Black Titanium fittings.
Thanks Toni and others for your previous comments, Toni, I like the high end kits, only draw back, the have a high end price so it is not easy to try and make many of them, unless of course there is a sale for them.

Now that's a nice set.
(Just don't end up like some of us: with more coin invested in pens waiting sale than in the rest of the workshop! )
