    The base between the tube and the gears is some self adhesize copper shim,cut into varying sizes and some perforations to simulate rivets ,as in Miks ( Metallica series ) because of the final thickness of the decorations ,I used a sierra vista Kit,which is about .05" thicker over all ,same kits as originally used for the earlier circuit board kits.     Thanks John. Is the adhesive copper shim a pen supplier component, or an Engineering supply?

    You can also buy self adhesive copper foil in different widths and thicknesses from leadlight suppliy shops.

    Searching for copper foil in Ebay gives all sorts of self adhesive copper foil for all sorts of applications that I wasn't aware of.

    i use Slugga snail tape that you get from the hardware store, 10 meters for about $15 much cheaper than ebay
