Default Jr Gent kits with metal visible threads in Oz

    Hi folks,

Lately I've been really loving the Jr Gent IIs from gary pye with metal threads - the visible ones at least. Unfortunately they only do them in rhodium - which is nice, but sometimes another plating would be better.

I can't find anyone in oz selling a similar style rollerball (simple but classy I guess) with plated exposed threads in different finishes - anyone know of a source in Oz or am I going to have to order from the US?

This is an example I finished yesterday - I'm fairly happy with it but I think it'd look better in a Ti Gold finish...

    Cheers,

    Danny

    Looks great mate.

Yes metal threads are good, provided they are only on one side i.e. the other side needs to be the plastic. When both threads are metal they tend to come undone in your pocket

Although not metal threaded, I have recently moved from the Baron and Sedona kits to the Tycoon. I find them a good size (not too big as sine of the more expensive ones seem to be) and the finish on them seems quite durable (time will tell). But they have Gold (24ct) and rhodium platings...

Like your pen not fussed about metal threads, any pen that screws together is at the mercy of strangers whe try with all their might to pull pens apart.

Do like your pen in that form also you were not frightened to give it shape, it sure displays that beaut timber well.

Yeah, always a problem with pens with separate lids, people don't expect them!

Might give them a try! I quite like the castellar kits from timberbits which are similar (although they seem to use Jr Gent II tubes and bushings which is convenient), but they also have the plastic thread exposed... I think (and this is purely an 'eye of the beholder' thing) the metal threads really class a pen up!

Totally agree that they look more classy, but we are blessed with a small population and massive cost on postage if we want to import anything..... I make do (though I am seriously considering saving my pennies and doing a bit of a bulk order to get my hands in some of those more unique kits in the USA)

Yeah, I am thinking about putting in a decent size order with one of the US suppliers to make the postage more worthwhile. I ran into a similar problem getting hold of sierra vista kits - got a decent batch and I think that was worthwhile.

Remember to keep it well under the $1000 AUD mark after currency conversion to avoid import duty.

I bit the bullet and ordered some kits from exoticblanks.com. They charge for a medium flat rate box up front for international orders, here's hoping it fits into something smaller and they can refund me a few dollars... Shame about the exchange rate!

In future, consider buying from a number of US suppliers at the same time and have then all sent to a re mailer. They will then consolidate all your orders into one and ship that internationally to you. I do this all the time but keep the total under $1000. They can get really good international shopping rates because of the volume they process.

I did get a chunk of the up-front shipping charge back from exotic blanks, and used some of the kits last night.

A quick sample of Jr Gent kits with metal visible threading:

Coolabah burl in a rhodium kit from GPW, thuya burl in gold Ti from exotic blanks, and my own casting in black Ti from exotic blanks.

Come on Aussie suppliers, bring in some more variety (I know it's not easy)!

    Cheers,

    Danny

    Looking good

I forgot to mention, if you have unwinding thread issues with the metal on metal thread, you can place a smear of silicon in the lower tiny grove in the cap (below thread) forming a sort of o-ring that it solves the problem by locking on to the main pen step
