June, better get turning
Hey folks,
Here are a couple I gave managed to finish off. The first was a collaboration with a bloke up in Brisbane. He imports a lot of timber, and enjoys dyes and stabilising. I love the resin work....match made in heaven.
I think it's box eldar burl, dyed and stabilised. Our thoughts were 'Fire & Ice'. This was my second time using megapoxy hx. I think I left it a bit long before pouring as I think it was too hard to get the swirls that mica usually produces. Instead it looks kind of sparkly. Still pretty cool, but not the look I was going for. Live and learn

Second pen I have been playing with for a while. I was going to go with the name of 'Forgotten Time'. The concrete effect isn't quite as pronounced as I'd like so still some tweaking to do. But the rusty gears have come up a treat!!
I was using a gator mold for these tube in castings but alas, fir the hourglass there wasn't quite enough meat on the blank so I ended up putting some Queen ebony on the ends. I'm not usually a fan of pulling off a fix like this but I guess it will pass quality control.
This is for a swap, so once again shhhhhh, it's going out in the mail this week - destined for the states...

Very creative and inventive Gab.. Love the interesting effects you generate.
Keep up the good work. I have also loved resin filled wood and the pics you show demonstrates the potential of it. Its beautiful!
Remember, I have a stack of wood for you to look and select from .... some is what is called "gift wood"
(I've been at the AWTEX turning exhibition in Moorabin on Fri and Sun and posted some pics on the wood turning forum incl. one of a pen.)
Cheers, Euge

I posted a reply to this thread last night, but now it’s gone, as well as Gabs reply to Euges post ?
Both are great looking pens Gab. I really like the colour combo on the first one, very striking.Brad.

Really like the first one. What you have done really makes the wood texture and colours stand out.
