Have to hand it to you Skip, you do think outside the box and nail it every time. Another stunning pen. Keep them coming. It gives us mortals something to shoot for.

Skip
That pen is what I call Copperart par excellance.
It is beautifull and would have great significance using these materials and does for me as an Electrician and would be metal worker especially. In my life people set standards for detail and finish, you choose two difficult for me mediums SS and Copper, well done at a top level, thanks for the progress pics as well, outstanding contribution.
Questions. Is there a special treatment while turning and drilling Copper, my experience is it tends to gather or stuff up real quick and can be a mongrel to drill cleanly is there a preferred drill to use and is there a better way to grind the cutter.Do you use lubrication in the lathe ie fluid or paste.
Regards Peter I look up to you.

Thanks guys.
Peter, yep copper ( and sometimes stainless steel) can be a grabby material to work with. For small stuff like pens, I normally wouldn't worry about lube/coolant and my normal lathe coolant stuff is more hassle than it's worth ( due to the clean up afterwards) I've found that if I used a freshly sharpened bit with a relatively high rake angle and just a quick squirt of WD40 (Q20) after each pass then it works fine.
However, in this instance grabbing wouldn't have been an issue as once it was drilled and roughed out, I shaped the taper with 80 grit anyway.
Because both ends are closed and the ends are angled, I couldn't use the tailstock for support, so it was virtually completely 'turned' with sandpaper.
Cheers for now
