    Default Late Christmas pressies

My mum and stepfather had chrissy lunch on chrissy day at my sisters about 1000 miles away
We'll be having a later chrissy lunch with them next weekend.
    Here's their presents
a matching pen and pencil sierra set. Pencil kit from 043turning and pen kit from timberbits.
Not sure what the timber is - I thought spalted spotted gum but have been told might not be spotted gum. Anyway it is a spalted eucalypt of some sort with the timber rescued from the nature strip opposite MIL's. All dipped in lacquer about 7 times.

I also made a spare in case one of them didn't work. Kit from Addictive

It's intersting in that when I do the spare 'just in case' pen that they all work out. If I do the single blank/pen ... then I have problems

    Great looking spalting and pens

Can't say I've seen the Sierra flat top pencils, only the click. Can't see it on 043's site either.

    What size lead is it?

I was up at 043 the weekend before chrissy
I think they are a new kit - the lead keeps coming out as you twist and retracts as you twist the other way. It's thicker then .5mm. I'll get the callipers onto it after I get dinner cooking. The leads are a tad over .9 mm
He also had a similar pencil kit for the cigar which I got to try out and will make in the next couple of weeks, maybe

Cross cut insofar as these were the corner pieces of a couple of flitches I cut into round blanks for bowls. But you're correct as I had the same thought on one of them. I'd deliberately cut for the most colour variation and spalting. So I didn't care much which way the grain ran.

    Sam
I was a tad tight for time
but next time I'm up there will take up your invite

Could be in the next couple of months - the friends we were staying with will have some native olive for me, so I'd better go and collect it

Very nice, love the look of that timber your parents should be happy to receive them as presents
