Latest Order
Hey There,
Just completed and delivered my latest order, The order was for Sierra's 5x Gold, Jarrah, 5x Chrome, Jarrah and 5x Chrome, Marri. The customer does Timber floors and wanted something to give to his clients. I had them Laser Engraved and I filled them with Rub-n-Buff, gold and I found Silver today. I also did an extra Marri and did one for the Client in WA Sheoak.
Comments welcome.

Nice stuphph Hazza.
That's the way to go to not only promote the floor layer's business but your own talents as well.

A nice manageable amount ! more than that in one batch starts to feel more like work hehe! Good to see a company appreciating the value added approach to their clients, you should be well pleased with the results there , cheers ~ John

Nice looking bunch of pens
Good on the flooring guy too. I guess a pen doesn't add much to the overall cost of the average flooring project and it certainly adds a nice touch. I guess they wouldn't have too much hassle getting their hands on offcuts either

Nice batch Hazza... interested more in the engraving. Do you turn to final dimensions, engrave then finish or finish and engrave? Do you fill the engraving prior to finishing? Have avoided requests for engraving in the past but maybe I shouldn't
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Good work Hazza,
Where do you get the Rub & Buff, never heard of it. Although that's not unusual don't do many pens.

Ray

Hey There,
thanks for the comments,
I turn and finish the blanks and then get them engraved. The fellow that does my engraving says it is easier for him to engrave them before I assemble them. It's ok with Sierra's but I think that it would be a logistical nightmare with two piece pens and keeping the Grains aligned.
The Rub-n-Buff is a product that we get from 'Spotlight' a craft supply shop here, I don't know wether they are interState or not. I have 'Gold Leaf' and 'Silver Leaf' there are a couple of other colors mainly Gold tones. Its in a little tube about 15ml will last for ever I reckon. It even works on Acrylics. I will get some done next week and post them on the forum.
I also found that you need to do a couple of extra coats of CA to make sure that you fill the grain right up, as the rub-n-buff finds all the little bits that you didn't see before.
I found out yesterday that the denser the timber the better, it burns better. softer timbers absorb the heat and don't burn real good.
Thanks again

Good work with the pens and engraving.
Thought of a way to keep alignment with two piece pens and engraving mark alignment on the end with marker in line should solve that problem helps when you assemble later as well.
Have continued success Peter.

I was always worried that if I finished the pen then engraved without re-sealing I would have problems with the oils in peoples hands getting into the wood and lifting the finish. If I ever went that way I was going to turn, sand, engrave, fill, finish but might look into it further now.
Thanks
