A lazy afternoon
What the hey ...
I was inspired by stirlos pics of his very neat kit layout ... was bored, had a coupla beers and decided that one of my fishing tackle boxes could go to better use
Now that I look at it ... it could do with way more kits
Also, now that the kit box is all neat n tidy, had to make a couple didnt I! . . so, below are the pics of what turned up today.
First is silky oak burl with the mont blanc (at least I think its silky oak ... found it in the tree loppers pile of freebies)
The other .. well, it should not have show boated the mont blanc with the burl:mad: , but it did end up doing so.
No guesses to what that one is.

Now I'm derpressed. [sigh]
See a few pix of Toni's (& others) nice, shiny new Ledas... then I look at my beat up old lady. Now I see your nice, shiny mandrel, mill and bushes and can't help but compare them to my grotty old things.
But, you know what? I still wouldn't swap any of 'em for quids!
I like the burl pen, BTW. Would never have picked it for Silky!

Ahuh ... chick at work lent me her pyrography thingy.. (I still think the word pyrography was a word made up by scooby doo .. just doesnt roll off the tounge like a normal word)
Shiny mandrel is a virgin ... I bought it in a panic coz I thought I had bent my original. Well, I did .. but managed to fix it
And lastly .. not sure if it is Silky to be honest ... was a scrounge job, and not too good at pick the species just yet. .. below is a pic of a bowl made of the same stuff. A mate reckons it looks like parmesan cheese..... Rich

Hi Rich,
Nice pens mate, I don't think that is silky oak though, but
whatever it is stil a nice bit of wood, hard to tell from a pic,
but could it be white cedar.
Identifying the timber is half the fun.
cheers Mick

I also seriously doubt that it's Silky Oak. It looks familiar, but I can't put my finger on it.
A bloody nice grain to it, just the same!

The slim is my famous .. erm, plywood pen.
I dont know why, but they seem to be very popular. (Just dont say its plywood .. say its .. erm, laminated recycled timber or something)
Get this right ... I ask SWMBO to come and have a look at them both and tell me which one she likes best .. of course, the ply pen. [shakes head]
Oh well .. at least its cheap...... Rich
