lookout Master caster LOL
This pen was made by me from a blank made by Greg ( Plantagenon ) while we acomplish making blanks similar to the master caster Ian allen (nai84). This blank was just a half hearted attempt to build a blank full of colour but as you can see it has turned out fine so lookout Ian
as Usual I would like to hear your comments
Cheers Ian

Better next time Amos. I have now tools to blend the resins a lot easier. Still, I am not interested in resins, so these will only be an experiment.

To me it came up way better than I thought it would when I saw it from the outside it wasn't till I cut it that I saw all the colours inside.

It is heartening to see the progression being made by those who do casting, my only concern with resin, the perception of "cheap plastic" by those who don't know-they think they are just mass produced pens, it is only when it is explained how the pen came about that customers take note. Amos

Doesn't seem to stop the likes of Conway Stuart. Omas, Mont Blanc and a host of other upmarket brands selling their very expensive pens clad in "cheap resin" Amos.

I agree with Big Shed. Other than "wood"turners, no-one has suggested my acrylic and resin pens are cheap plastic. Some people gravitate to timber with gloss finish, some to waxed/oiled timber, some to multicolour acrylic and some to simpler acrylic. That preference determines their attitude more than anything else.
Similarly, many care about size, weight and balance but few care about durability of platings, only silver or gold or gunmetal or whatever "colour" looks nice to them.

What we make isn't plastic, they are hand crafted polyester resins, or at least that is the way I explain it . If you want a cheap plastic one buy a BIC

Good point Fred, but I think the names blind the eyes, although, I must say those name brands do look the part. As for the smell of the resin blanks when turning,-I hate that smell, however, I did manage a few acrylics for the troops.Amos

That is a great looking blank. If those are only experiments, then I can't wait to see your production blanks. And you're right. Most of the time the outside looks terrible. But what lies just below the surface can be a real surprise. Just like a lot of timber.

Master Caster (nai) almost lost his head yesterday when he put it into a bandsaw blade. No serious damage other than to pride and the bandsaw blade of course

I know I shouldn't laugh about such a serious matter but I am going to any way what sort of goose would put his head in the band saw I know there is a copy floating around of your blank it is no reason to want to put your head in the band saw you are not under threat my friend I am sure it is just those concerned have found it a bit of a challenge and you know how we all like to hear those Famous words YOU CAN'T DO THIS
by the way that's not a cut at least my band saw cost me 4 stitches and a $140
Cheers Ian
