    Default Lost bushings

    Well after being away from my creative zone for over 4 weeks.
    I finally got back in there this afternoon after giving my self a five minute refresher course.
    Ie that's the lathe that's the bit that turns I think.
    I decided I would turn a slim line pen for someone I know.
    Well after spending ages looking for bits I swear I had.
    The bushings I brought ages ago, I gave up and used the old ones I had.
    I got by, but we're the hell are those bushings!.
    Now for those that don't know me, or my space.
    I would describe my creative zone as moderately organised not OCD, it's small,but I generally like things in there place and empty the bin more than twice a year.
    Well anyway I got the job done and I'm fairly happy with my Jarra Crome slim line pen.

    So I'm being a good Boy Scout and putting everything way.
    The pen mandrel comes of the lathe and I grab the little red plastic slip box if lives in from the bench and low and behold there's the little (expletive) bushings stuffed down in the end of the box.
    Lol lol lol well now all the little pen tuning bits and bops will find them selves in there own little bigger clear plastic tub from now on very soon.

    I've a shelf under my lathe that holds a small chest of drawers that I made for the space. It has 5 drawers, the top drawer, contains my small miniature turning chisels, pencils and bitsnbobs, the next one down holds my Robert Sorby ring tools and other special tools of similar kind, the 3rd drawer holds all my pen making stuff, in it is a bit of ply about 50 mm wide with 6 mm dowels to hold the bushes, the next one down holds screws, coach screws for the face plate and other odds and sods as does the bottom drawer. Can post pics if anyone wants to see it.

    Hi Matt, just went out to get some pics for you. Hopefully they might give someone a few ideas. The shelf on the left hand side, holds my tray for micromeshing the CA finished pens, not that I do much of CA, as I've become allergic to the stuff.

    My biggest problem is forgetting to close the drawers, hence the wood shavings and dust in the drawers.
    Drawers are made from 9 mm MDF with 3 mm bottom, approx 200 wide 350 deep and about 50 mm deep each.

    Hi Matt,
    Firstly nice pen. Grain really stands out.
    I also went out and took some photos of my setup. Lathe came with bench attached. I built and installed the 3 drawers below the bench top and installed a Mr Strong vice and a 6 inch bench grinder ($29 Ozito).
    Vice was bought at Brisbane Wood show 10-15 years ago. Grinder was just too cheap to pass. Not ideal but good enough to get me started. Keeps things sharp enough to turn the pens I showed in another thread.IMG_0188.jpgIMG_0189.jpg
    Not tidy but workable until we get our own place.

    I know I didn't have to, but if I didn't do it straight away I'd forget, which is happening a lot lately, it's called CRAFT disease, Can't Remember A Flamin Thing.
    I found that the big drawers get loaded up with unnecessary crap, which is why I kept them small, even then, they still fill with crap, but not as much!!!!
