McJing pen chuck
Hi,
Am thinking of purchasing a pen chuck - https://mcjing.com.au/searchresult.a...0blank%20chuck
Has anyone used one before? Would it fit on my Hafco WL-20?
Thanks.

Only if your lathe has a 1"x8 or 1"x10tpi thread

The Hafco WL-20 has a 1'*10tpi thread so it would fit, can't comment on the actual quality of the pen chuck.

I don't drill on the lathe if I can avoid it, it's a PITA.
Why this desire to own another gadget? I put a couple of wooden jaws on my drill press vice with a V groove in them. Besta nd easiest way to drill blanks.

If you have a Vicmarc or Nova chuck you can buy Pen Jaws to do the same thing.

Personally, I'd suggest getting a collet chuck with a complete set of collets. I use mine all the time from drilling to squaring. I also do a lot of closed ended pens, and a collet will let you grip a barrel (as long as it's pretty straight) without marring the work. It's such a versatile tool for the lathe.

I purchased this chuck a couple of months ago, a great addition to my set up, and overnight service from Mcjing, you cant go wrong with it, very accurate.

a little tip
I found when using these chucks it is best to mark the 2 corners you place in the chuck, and make sure you go from the same corners on both halves of the blank. Not all my blanks are perfectly square so this helps to match the grain in the end result.
Also helps to remount correctly when using a mill bit to clean up the ends.
Hope this helps
Cheers
