Mesquite Burl Zen & Cigar
I came into a lot of Mesquite Burl last weekend and after cutting it up I made these 2 just for fun. I included a couple pics of my haul as well. The first is a 2 inch slice off the root ball burl I got a few blanks and a couple nice 2x2x11" spindles out of it.
Enjoy

Great looking pens!!
Over here mesquite is regarded as an invasive pest and is mostly cut and used for firewood. Maybe it would be worth going through some woodheaps!

Like rabbits and prickly pear some bright spark brought it into the country and the environment suited it beautifully.
No indigenous insects, animals or other means of control and these things just went on invading huge ares of land.
Same has happened with an acacia brought in from India.
We really need to think more carefully about wha we do so that the environment is protected.

Camphor laurel is also a weed but like mesquite is a great turning resource. Since we can’t unscramble the eggs we have to make the best use we can Of What we have.
