    Lightbulb Nearly a Pen

Got a couple of these in the mail yesterday,so of course couldn't wait to see how they looked, It's a Penlight, batteries not included LOL. Found a piece of ancient Kauri from NZ ,looked pretty ordinary ,a bit soft .so care in turning and finishing with CA ,overall I think its a worthwhile addition to my collection of market offerings , cheers ~ John

Nicely done John. Let us know how the interest goes, as there wouldn't be many around at the moment. Always good to see something new in the market place.
Did you get the kits from an Aussie supplier?

Dallas I don't think these are available locally, although 043 turning may have a keyring version ,these came from Rihzing ,a new line I think . Takes 2 "AAA" batteries and a nice click switch on the end of the cap
about the size of a sierra vista pen so not overly large Dia is .544 inches finished , cheers ~ John

Good for you Tony ,these are a nice kit ,i think more suited to a nice timber than an acrylic ,should sit nicely in a pocket along with a matching pen hehe. Cheers ~ John

It's an LED bulb ,so should last well with 2 x AAA batteries ,I just had a look and it gives off a reasonably good light ( a bluish color ) and about a 3ft focused spread with peripheral light around that at about 6 feet ,would be quite useful for a small torch I would think , I have a commercial led pen type which uses button batteries, I think this penlight is a lot better than my commercial one hehe, cheers ~ John

Mik ! I would love to see one of these in your Mecha blanks, unfortunately I suspect just not enough meat on these for that purpose (about .045" per side less tube thickness ) so maybe a bulgy pen might work
    Cheers ~ John

i thought much the same john

i was going to ask about the size of the tubes, but had another look at the pickies and decided with the size of the batteries there wouldn't be much left

its got me beat why all the component sets don't have more meat around the tubes, just another 1mm on each side would open the doors to so much more possibility

one day when i get a metal lathe (need a new wood lathe first) i will make my own component sets......thats once i learn how to drive one as well

That is a beautiful Nearly a Pen that really shines . Ok, that was really bad, sorry. But that is still a very cool pen light.

BTW, how come all my nearly pens don't transform into something cool. Mine just lay around being nearly a pen.
