    Default Needlewood Closed End

Continuing with my Closed End Series, this one is made with Needlewood, I made it about 15mm longer than the last 2 that I made, just experimenting with proportions.
I knocked out the black plastic button on the cap hardware, and replaced it with a wooden button, also made with Needlewood.
Its got a high gloss CA finish. Photographed under my LED lights which don't show the gloss.

Brad it is hard to proportion and never to take away from your crafting but the top proportion is minimised. Beaut timber, real pleased with your output.

Thanks again Peter. This timber came from your mate Ben.
So you think the pen is too long for the cap ,proportion wise ?
I like the feel of the longer pen in my hand, but like the aesthetics of the shorter versions for viewing.

Very nicely done. I think replacing the plastic button with wood really sets it off.

    Cheers Dallas.
Its one more step away from the boundaries set by the design of the kit. It’s easy to do, and worthwhile for the bit of extra effort.

That's a beautiful pen Brad , and a beautiful inland wood you chose with fine rays, beefwood-like wood (in colour & rays) but its not a Grevillea.
Its a Hakea which all make good woods for pens small items and when large enough for small boxes.

    Thanks again Euge.

I googled ‘needlewood’ before I posted the pen, just to make sure there was an explanation to what it was.

My photos haven’t quite captured the delicate grain that this beautiful timber has, as you know it’s not an easy task.
