Let's have another party in Canberra
well... just outside Canberra anyway. Dai Sensai (Neil) is in town for a few days a bit earlier than scheduled so let's move the schedule left a little.
I know it's short notice but for anyone who can get out here I'm happy to host this coming Sunday. I'm thinking meet here about 1030, spend some time in the shed, have a BBQ lunch and visit the gallery in town then if anyone's interested head back into the shed.
If you're interested in coming out then please send me a PM and I will pass on my phone number & address.
BYO meats or soy patties for the BBQ
Look forward to hearing and meeting a few faces Sunday.

Is it for turners only?
Just kidding. I'd like to come, but I'll have to seek a leave pass. Let me get back to you.

Well I had a great day, thanks Corbs for holding the day
Only Ilya was able to attend and even he was late . What a shame, we had to eat all those muffins I cooked last night ourselves for morning tea

Next we cast some Liquid Amber seed pods I picked up at Cowra in some Bright Copper Pearlex powder, just enough to coat them, then let the resin go off almost. We then cast them in some Bright Yellow Pearlex resin, along with various worthless wood pieces Corbs had, in two 150x150 mold boxes we knocked up from scraps and hot-melt glue and into my pressure pot. Unfortunately some of the hot melt glue let go on the WW cast and some of the resin emptied into the pot , so after a few repairs we topped up the coast with more resin. I'd used a fair bit of catalyst to ensure it went off fast so I could get my pot back .

While we were waiting for the resin to cure we drilled and glued up some blanks of some Cypress Pine Bark I scored at the Hall Mens Shed the other day. Corbs then turned them up and used his "bead CA technique" to finish them which I was very impressed with. Unfortunately the bushes got stuck and the finish chipped, plus some tissue fibres in the CA, so it will be back to the start for these. Typical, when ever someone is watching nothing goes right

Sorry photos are crap but my phone didn't like being out in the sun . Have to wait for Corbs to turn them up and post some decent photos when he get back next week, but better to have crappy ones than none
We also took the Bungendore Galleries tour after lunch
I've decided to stay another night, so i can do some washing tomorrow and a bit more shopping before heading bush again. We could meet up for lunch or something, just let me know if you are available, I'll PM ph no.

Thanks to Neil and Ilya for making the trek out to Bungendore. I had a great day with Neil and it's confirmed that I'm interested in doing some casting
As Neil has said above, we cast some Liquid Amber seed pods which I'm looking forward to having a play with and there was a few worthless wood blanks cast up as well. There was also a 'this resin isn't going to be any good for much longer so let's throw some colour in it and see what happens' blank made up. This little bad boy heated up and cracked a little so got sin binned to the fridge . I pulled it out this evening and cut it up, there were a fair few cracks through it so I've hit them pretty hard with thin CA to see what happens. At the very least, there's eight or so Sierra sized blanks but I should be able to save a bit more than that
Looks like I'm on the hunt for a pressure pot nowIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Thanks Corbs and Neil, was great relaxed day in the shed. The castings of the pods turned out to be quite good looking - keen to see it in a finished pen!
