Pearl Opal on Roman Harvest
G'day all,I did this pen the other day for the website and thought I'd share it here as well , I think this is the first pen I've put on the forum . Makes a nice change turning blanks against casting. The Pearl Opal is a difficult blank to photogragh , it never turns out the same way it does in the flesh.
Cheers, Bruce

That looks very elegant. The kit and blank match each other nicely.

Looks great, and I know what you mean about those pearl colours not photographing well, but you seem to have done an admirable job.

Do you mind me asking if you backpainted the blank ?

Thanks for your comments guys, I did paint the tubes on this one and would recommend it for any of the pearly white types and glow in the dark blanks as well. These blanks are a bit translucent by nature particuly when the finished wall thickness is less than 1mm. For the other blanks painting the tubes is not needed.

Hey Bruce, great looking pen mate. You wouldn't read of it, just this morning before heading off to work, I thought I'd drill out and prepare one of your Pearl Opal blanks (the last one I had left after getting several of them off you at the Brisbane WWW show. ) To suite a Roman Harvest. On the last 2mm of drilling out on the drill press and CRACKKKKK. The entire side blew out. SH*T, & bugger. Never mind. Your's looks terrific !!

Hi Bruce
I received the Woodchuck PenPro from you today along with the blanks. Thank you very much for them. One looks the same as the beautiful pen you have made above. My wife is very keen to have a pen turned like it so I will probably copy your combination and use a Roman Harvest. My favourite is the green and copper blank - just stunning. Now I just have to learn how to use the new tool - cheap blanks first, I think.
A question - should I use the R2 or the R4?
Thanks again
Greg

Hi Greg,
I'd suggest you try the R2 insert first as it is a little more forgiving due to the smaller contact patch.
Have fun.

Hi Bruce
The woodchuck works perfectly. Its easy to use and just slices through the timber. Best part is that the finished blank is actually smooth and requires minimal sanding. Its a bloody little ripper!
