Pen blanks in exchange for one pen?
Hi guys,
I've just been ripping down some some redgum to make 30x30mm pieces for a stool, and i've ended up with a few pieces too small to use for the job, around 20-25mm square, and various lengths of 250mm or more, final number TBC.
I'm not sure how fair this trade would be, but i'm happy to be told to bugger off if it's not worthwhile... but i'm hoping I could donate the blanks to someone in exchange for one finished pen using one of the blanks? I'd love for it to be finished with silver (or whatever has a silver/chrome/stainless finish that isn't too expensive).
The pen could be whatever internals the craftsman want to use, retractable or fixed with cap... Or even fountain if the budget extends that far.
Let me know if anyone is interested in this deal, or if I need to balance it out with cash to the craftsman. I can ship them anywhere in Australia.
Cheers.

Those are some of the ones I'm using, but they give you an idea of the colour etc.

Mate, those blanks that have the high line cracks probably won't be good due to the fact that they could shatter as they are reduced into a cylinder. The rest should be OK though. Have a look at Timberbits Catalogue and find a pen that suits you. Then if you like I could make a pen for you. If someone closer is agreeable to the project I won't mind if you go with them
Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

Thanks for the feedback. Those pieces are the ones I'm using for my project, the cracks are superficial and will enhance the look I'm going for, I'd never consider spinning the, up on a lathe though.
The blanks are free from cracks, I'll post pics of them tonight. I'll look at the catalogue you mentioned now.
So am I right to assume this is a fair deal? I'm not expecting too much from someone in exchange for the timber?
Cheers.

Hi don,
That would be awesome, do you have the JB in chrome fountain?
I've got the following pieces all pretty much 30x30mm.
1 @ 390mm
1 @ 275mm
2 @ 253mm
2 @ 187mm
1 @ 140mm
One of the 187mm pieces has come surface cracking, but they don't penetrate any further than 2mm.
I'm happy to provide these pieces to you, and some money as well if I'm getting the better and of the deal... I'd love to get one pen made, but two would be even better.

Hi,
I have JB Chrome in both Rollerball and Fountain pen so no worries.
Also have Streamline ( Broad ) Chrome on hand.
Just need to let me know what combination you would like.
I finish pens with a natural wax ( ie UBeaut ) rather than CA if that is a consideration for you.
I do pens for enjoyment so just the timber is fine by me.
regards

Hi don,
The JB chrome fountain would be amazing, whatever finish you use is fine by me.
I've got a few other nice bits of timber here, I'll try get some of those cut up and send them over too.
PM me your details and I'll send them to you on a courier tomorrow.
