Exclamation Pen Turning & Diamond Wood ?

I'm not sure if I've hit the right buttons or whether I'm peein' into the wind, but here goes.

I read the other day about a product called "Diamond Wood", well I too was under the impression that was what it is called, however after spending half an hour playing on this device (my PC) I found out that it isn't "Diamond Wood" but "Dymondwood" and made by a mob in Canada, namely "River Ridge Products".

As I say after playing around for half an hour I came across a page that contained a lot of images of this product and there among the photographs was the very same product that had been given to me several weeks ago.

I opened the site and up came "River Ridge Products", hallelujah, but there is a down side to this it is only available in or from Canada, they don't have an agent here in OZ, well, not at the time of my writing this.....?

When I looked at the site I was literally blown away by the variety of material there, my preference is for natural looking wood and they do have that along with a lot of other timber looking things, it is a timber product with the looks of timber, but it has been impregnated with a resin.

The couple of pieces that I was given look like Plywood at first but with turning and polishing they do not have that final appearance, in fact far more more classy....if you get my drift.

These two pieces had been sent to OZ to one of our Tool Sellers (no names no pack drill) as a ample and at that time they (River Ridge Products) were looking for an agent in Australia.

Well the small parcel had sat on a shelf and was going to be thrown out but, I was lucky that he thought of me, I got around to doing something with them on Sunday afternoon.

The Product Turns Well, the need for sharp tools is mandatory, but it is easy as. In fact I was quite impressed with how it almost doesn't need sanding, I was using a scraper and that gave an almost perfect finish, but with a variety of sanding paper's/cloth's, whatever one uses, right down to 600grit, it polishes up beautifully and with just a wax it looks absolutely first class.

I've made a Needle Holder (Red/Maroon) with one piece and will make a pen/writing instrument, with the other (anyone want a Nice Green Pen, sorry "Writing Instrument").

Now here's the zinger....because of the cost of shipping from Canada to OZ, I though that if enough of us (interested parties) got together and ordered a fair amount of this stuff we could get it shipped at a reasonable cost to all of us.

Maybe those interested can have a look at the site, Google it and see what comes up, have a poke around the site especially at "Acryliwood", there are a lot of different woods there, Buckeye Burl, Redwood Burl, Spalted White Ash, Black Ash Burl.

There is a lot of Gaudy stuff too (and I'm not being snobbish) but I'm not into that, my pens n' Bits n' Pieces have to look expensive and that in my opinion can only be obtained by using what looks like class timber.

Now having written an epic amount here, I have to admit I'm a bloody old snob with expensive taste's but I'm not ashamed of wanting things that look that way either, we all strive for our little bit of "Class" that is why we do what we do..........?

I open the field to those interested, I would appreciate any input, both positive and negative, my shoulders are broad as well as my middle...........?

It's just a though at the moment :

Apart from the fact I have seen the dymond blanks around local suppliers, Carbatec used to sell them, please be aware of the rules around bulk buys on these forums https://www.woodworkforums.com/f12/gr...mation-137571/

To be perfectly honest I wasn't aware of any regulations regarding buying bulk items on this forum, so, forget that I even mentioned it, I apologize if any corns were bruised.

I'll go it alone as I'm used to doing.

As far as Dymonwood being sold at "CARBATEC", that was in the dim dark past, I have a friend who works there and he said that it isn't being stocked mainly because there wasn't a big call for it and in today's world of commercial realism, if it ain't selling it don't get stocked, simple as that.

As for others selling it around Oz that's a joke too, I trolled the internet for more than four hours last week and again this week and there is no reference to anyone selling it.

So that being the case, I have made contact with "River Ridge Products" Canada, but so far they haven't seen fit to reply, I live in hopes as this product is so much better to use than anything else I've ever used, in my opinion, it makes pen's Into "Writing Instruments.

Looked at the site but the stuff they are supplying looks pretty gaudy to my refined tastes.

Thanks Darren, I purchased a whole heap about 3 years ago off carbatec, most were like the one on the right of those top three pens. Amos
