Nice bunch of pens there. Your photo is good too. Nice work.

There are a few that use the lacquer dipping method, I tried it for a while, the results were good, but took a little too long to get the pens finished, so I went back to CA.
There is a bit of a tutorial on the dipping process, I think it was by Ed Blysard, if you do a search, I am sure it will come up

Done well on those,it all takes time and the slims are not the easiest of kits, but they are very versatile and customisable if that's a word hehe.the middle one has a slight chip at the nib end ,with these you can disemble and reverse the clip and nib to hide the minor flaw under the clip enjoy the creation and have fun Cheers ~ John

Great work Skew

I have used Nitrocellulose lacquer to coat some pens. Dipping is the way to go but it is a slow process compared to CA and there is no such thing as a 5 minute dry with it. Ya gotta wear a mask or the fumes will take your head off - hence the nitro.

I made up a drying box for it (copied from another member's) The blanks need to dry vertically with the bushes still in so that you don't get a dry pool of nitro at the base of the blank. It dries at the base of the bush instead. A bolt thrugh the blank and bushes (like a mandrel) with a washer and bolt at the end of the lower bush will work well. I can put some pics up if yu want to see them. Nitro gives a brilliant durable finish but it can turn yellowish with time (a long time) with exposure to light and heat. Mix 1/2 nitro with 1/2 thinners. Also, put the mixed solution in a glass jar that is painted black to stop any light getting in otherwise the mixed lacquer will go yellow. It will last for ages in the darkened jar and a jar of nitro will do heaps and heaps of pens.

I think they use it as a coating over fishing rods as it is very flexible. Brilliant stuff but a slow process, yet worth a try.

They are really nice, I particularly like the GF Burl.

Plantagenon thanks for the info on the lacquer. Once Ive mastered the CA finish Im going to give the lacquer another try. My friends that I have shown the pens to seem to lean more towards these finished pens.
