i had no probs making the pen at all ( not trying to be a smart ar*e here ) it was no harder than turning some thing like buckeye burl .
however the bloody pen is no good , as in i cant sell it cos the click mechanism wont work properly , geeze i hate that with these kits , you dont know until they are assembled and then they are almost impossible to get apart without destroying some thing .
is there a decent click pen kit out there anywhere if there is i would like to know about them , the longwood kit is not to bad a kit but are there any others ??'If the enemy is in range, so are you.'

The corn comes up great, I'll have to give that a try one day, did you use a CA finish on that?

its was just dried for a few months then drilled and turned and sanded the same as i would for a timber blank then a few coats of thin CA let it soak in then 0000 steel wool and finish the same as a timber pen with CA
all turning done with a skew , its fragile stuff although the center is fairly hard almost like a soft wood .'If the enemy is in range, so are you.'

I have done a few stabilised and dyed ,smell great when turning hehe, like the coffee bean blanks ,pity the smell goes when sealed and finished. Some of the better quality kits have nice click actions ,but usually they tend to be more in the sierra cigar styles, a nice click pen and pencil are the "gift sets, come with 2 mm leads so not as fragile as the 07 or 05 leads. One thing to watch with the clicks is that the tube lengths are right on size, take a small amount off the length and they usually will fail ( don't ask) hehe cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Great job Texx
I've got quite a few in my freezer drying, too many went mouldy out in the open with all the rain we've had.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Will they ever actually dry in the freezer? Seems like any moisture would freeze & still be damp after thawing. How about wrapping in paper or submerging in sawdust and putting inside out of the weather.

If you are having drying problems, grab some of the up-market kitty litter (the stuff that is white crystals with the occasional blue crystal) and use that - it's pure silica gel and the kitty litter bags are the cheapest way of buying it.

think freeze dried coffee .course it works . makes batter go crunchy too , potato scallops battered then part cooked then frozen for a few days , then dropped straight from the freezer into the deep fryer gives a crunchier batter because of the drying out

Guess that all makes sense. Never thought of it that way. Shows how much I know about food---other than eating it
