Playing with shape
Hi folks,
Made myself a couple of jr gent blanks out of some leftover epoxy and thought I would try different shapes and see what folks prefer! It's very obvious in person but harder to tell from the photo - the one on the left has a bit more curve to it, the right hand is pretty close to straight sided.
Any thoughts? My guess is that pen turners might have a different preference from the general public but thought it'd be interesting to see!
Cheers,
Danny

I find the shape is as individual as the kit and timber itself. Many people prefer different shapes depending on their writing style.
I found a few older people prefer larger pens (easier to grip) and a few younger clients love slimlines (don't particularly enjoy turning them but money is money - more that I don't trust the components on a cheap kit more than anything)
On a Tycoon or the like I tend to do a slight curve to the lid and straight body. I guess this is just my preference as I prefer the straight body to hold but the curve shows off the timber a little more - I tend to turn hybrid and timber pens, not solid resin."All the gear and no idea"

Danny, they are a bit bland for my liking, a bit colourless, the grey doesn't do it for me, oh yes, its a B&W pic, hahahahaha. personally I like the one on the right, the straight lines. Cigar pens and slimlines I find more likeable being a bit rounder. but great looking pens. just wish knew what colour they were.

I like ém both.
The background does no t really make the pens stand out enough so you might give consideration to that in future posts.

Hah, no, it is indeed a colour photo, they are just very monochrome! I like that part personally but I do understand other's will not, Fumbler . Artme, yes, I see now I should probably put them on a clean white background but I am not sure I am motivated enough!
Gabriel - yeah, I am always interested in who likes what... I find some interesting differences with men and women too, with men being keener on timber and women on the various resins (as a general rule!). Plus the more predictable hand sizeen size correlation.

Danny I really prefer the right hand pen. This keeps a beaut balance at the centre of the pen. It is difficult with oversize pis to really see them as a unit. I like the blanks so much, the pens stand out. Thanks for sharing.
