This is a work in progress that will be finished once I get back to the lathe. It is The Apollo and the bottom barrel is made from Ceylon Ebony and the finish I am using is Organoil Hard Burnishing Oil.

Any pen like ebony, African Blackwood or even black resin will show the smallest scratches. I started wet sanding at 400 grit with the oil and worked my way through to 1200 grit. I will leave it for 72 hour and then buff with a clean calico buffing wheel.

The components are from Kate Harrow at Bullseye Turning Supplies. They come in both a rollerball and fountain pen components and you have a choice of aluminium or a brass finish. It is a great way into closed end pens and there are two threaded mandrels that you can purchase to turn the cap and barrel.

Some have said that they allow you to make bespoke/custom pens but due to the metal components I think calling it a bespoked/custom pen is not right and can only be classed as a closed end pen. As you can see with the rollerball components, it consists of 3 parts, excluding the refil and spring.
