Default Some recent bits 'n' pieces

Here's a few recent ones to come off the lathe...

The one with brass rings is for a Naval officer where the rings represent his rank, the wood is Jarrah. On the other laminated one I used Jarrah as the main body and box burl for the ends. The targets are brass in the centre, copper then aluminium on the outside. Took a few trial and errors to get this one right. Both are bullet pens but have to confirm what kit they are going on now.

The bullet pens are as follows (left to right):
    Mackay Cedar
    Red Mallee Burl
    Beefwood
    Jarrah
    Jarrah
    Jarrah
    Hawaiian Koa, &
    Blue Gum Root

The sierra is a chrome & trivalent chrome kit with a Woma Python snakeskin blank from Timberbits. This is the first snakeskin pen I've made and I think there will be more to come

Thanks guys, I'm actually not that happy with the rank pen so have started another version of it. If I can get it finished tomorrow I will post comparison pics if I get it done

    Default Rank pen Mk II

I made another version of the rank pen this afternoon and I'm much happier with the result. I didn't like the join line between the brass bands and also didn't like the bands being centred on the pen. The brass bands will go on the writing nib end to replicate the rank as worn on an officers sleeve in ceremonial rig.

Where did you get the brass to use as the inlay? Is it just a different diameter tube cut to length and fed on to the pen tube sandwiched between timber?

Looks really nice. You should bring some examples of your pens along to the get together. Really keen to check them out

Thanks guys, I get my brass from Monaro Hobbies in Fyshwick. It's just the thickest brass flat section they have.

Delbs, I will bring a few pens over with me. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like me to bring along
