Red Ash Gall cast in flouro green resin
I scored a heap of Red Ash the other day (see here: https://www.woodworkforums.com/f14/mo...e-club-158619/) and amongst it was some galls (see post 9). Sliced them into little slices then stuck them in the dehydrator during the week, cast a few of them yesterday, then cut them into blanks today. I used the flouro green resin, made using neutral Pearlex and dye, and some of the dye penetrated the punky wood. I liked the effect, so decided to turn one up to see how it looked. I just used the thin CA to stablize it after drilling, inside hole, and again 1mm from final size.
Dressed in a chrome Baron, CA finish.

Well Neil it may not be everybody's cup of tea but I love it I really like it with the fluro green (thats what I meant when I said not everyone may like it. I really am going to have to get some fluro green and play around. Did you just do that in your pressure pot ?
Cheers Ian

All the prep work you put into you blanks, shows up as usual in your fantastic pens. Another unusual & outstanding pen Neil.

Very nice pen Neil. I like the fluro colours with the timber. Gives it a real sparkle
I must get back into the shed this week. I haven't turned the lathe on for over a month and I have a few projects waiting. The trouble with retirement is that you never have any time to do anything.

Very cool effect you got from the dye getting into the timber. Fit-n-finish on this seems to be as close to perfect as I've seen lately....anywhere!!
