    Default Red Ironbark rollerball

Here is a roller ball from Red Iron bark i got in a pen swap and blanks from Fred. It is a RL rollerball that i made into a closed end pen. Just playing around. See what you think.

Beautiful craftsmanship as usual Darren, I like the style of the closed end section adds a new dimension to pen making.

Greta finish and fit up as well

Yes, I like it also Darren, you are learning good!!!, The second photo seems to show off the red colour of the wood, very attractive. Did you improvise to do the closed end or did you get the closed end mandrel? Amos

I've looked at this pen a few times today ...
deciding whether I liked it (and more to the point would I copy it!)

I tend not to like the bulby/bulbourous* (?) style of pen. Just not my style or to my taste. After some procrastination I've concluded that the curves are extremely well proportioned and I actually do like it. Like the timber as well! (have some in the shed somewhere) the closed end with the curve to the nib and then to the top are really plesing - well done

    *Russian onion style maybe

SM for you to come back and look at it a few times and then for the design to win you over, then that has been high praise for the design. Amos, Peter and others will tell you, I rarely stray from clean lines when it comes to pen crafting. The roller ball and fountain pens allow that flexibility for me to play with shapes and if I hit on a design that works then I transfer it over to the higher end pens.

The Red Iron Bark is a beautiful timber, a lot of people look at these bush woods as either fire wood or building material, but if you look at the real beauty then you have an amazing pen. I cut some spotted gum the other day and it will look good against black ti kits . Russian Onion I like that or could call it the Kremlin Pen.

Amos I wish I could afford the luxury of the closed end mandrels from AZ Sil. but an 8mm dyna bolt is what was in the budget. I cut the outer sleeve back and threaded the bolt as far as I could. It works on the same principle as the closed end mandrels. Yeah Amos I am starting to get better at crafting, one day will get there I think

Sam and Stirlo thanks for the comment, the closed end is simple and un-complicated. Less is more cheers
    Darren
