Red Mallee Sedonas
Hi,
These are the first two pens I've made with a two-pack poly finish (Rustins). Both pens are red mallee and are as hard as concrete to turn but rather lovely.
Attachment 113647
The finish is an outstanding step up from my other finishing approaches (CA/BLO and WOP). However, my skill level is still far from perfect here and will improve with practice... there are problems with both lids which I've managed to hide in the photo (I hope)
Anyway, thnaks to Addictive Pen Kits for there very helpful tutorial paper on the Rustins finish - it gave me the confidence to have a go!
Cheers

Nice pens and you must have hidden the stuff ups on the lids well... they look fine from here. Red Mallee Burl is one of my favourites
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Nicely done ! I think in all honesty most of us have "hidden" minor glitches with the clips lol. I found burls will tend to chip at the ends a bit, so I do a light coat of thin ca on the ends before turning ,seems to help a bit cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Hey Shane,
Nice job, the pens look good from here, it's been said before, we are our own biggest critics, most people don't even see the mistakes and blemishes that we see.

Thanks for all the kind words... because I am fussy, I have a number of lid blanks glued up and waiting to be turned.
For me, the fun is to try to make "the perfect pen" - perhaps like Don Giovanni and charging at windmills, a rather impossible quest but fun none the less.Shane Magrath
