Thread: How do you remember what blank you used.

John, I use a small tag for each pen ( a small square of cardboard with string attached).
This tag holds name of blank and plating on one side and serial number and price on the other side.

Tagging is good !
I write on the kit packet what the wood is when making it ,then all my pens go into a clear tube or plastic pouch whatever and are labelled and affixed to the packaging , I still have a big box of "mystery wood" hehe, cheers ~ John

String tags are great.

I type the name of the wood plus a separate column for
my maker's details.

I then cut them up and stick them on to a tag. Then use
scissors to cut the tag down to fit the details.

Bit fiddly but looks neat at the finish.

In all that rambling about forgetting wood types, I forgot!!! to mention--Great looking pens. Amos

it's the only thing i can remember in life i'm sure when there's a few hundred there i'll start forgetting. Hopefully i'll be clearing the first 100 at my first market stall very soon. I doubt it but i can live in hopes labelling will be done by then so that should help.

I agree small tag with a string attached is how I do it. But I do like Allan's idea of cutting down the string

I have seen some people print small stickers and stick them on.

Age is telling on you John. I can still remember everything.

But that is assuming you know the name in the first place

i use the 30 pen boxes from timberbits for storing and displaying most of my pens, i cut a small piece of leather looking cardboard and write the price along with the type of wood from which the pen is made which i attach under the particular pen with double sided tape

in the better pens that i make a i put them into a single box also from timberbits and i fill out a little card with all of the details including boxed price, unboxed price, kit details, refill type and wood

i tried playing with the swing tags but i thought it detracted from the look of the pen
