Where to get sandalwood
Hi all
I am after about 10 - 20 sandalwood pen blanks.
Anyone know where I can purchase the timber?
Thanks in advance for any leads.

Genuine Australian Sandalwood is a protected species and, AFAIK, it is illegal to gather and sell it.
There maybe plantation grown Sandalwood available, but from where I would not know.

I bought a small old branch from the WWW show in Bris that was marked sandalwood, perhaps it is false sandalwood given the comments above, not sure of difference

was that from bilinudgel? The stand next to the soloman ebony guys? I got some of that too (we always seem to buy the same stuff at shows eh?). Not sure if it's false sandalwood either but it looks identical to the last sandalwood i turned. Then again that might have been false sandalwood too

I know of a place down in Melbourne that had a piece of Sandlewood which might give 10 blanks but they wanted $120 for it... I went like this , then got some nice burls instead. If you want the details, I will try to remember who they are and find them again.
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

I sometimes pass a yard in Bibra Lake just south of Perth where "Westcorp" store a large amount of sandalwood. I believe it is from contracts to gather on crown land and most is sold overseas - wether or not any goes to the domestic market I don't know but it may be worth enquiring about. Price wise I am told that it is sold at around an unconfirmed $10,000 per tonne.

There is a Sandalwood plantation in the Capella or Clermont area. Vern may have more info on this. I remember seeing a sign advertising the plantation but cannot remember the exact location.
Good luck,
Shirley
