Sedonas in Spring...
Well, I've been practicing with the Rustins finish.
The fountain pen is a Red Mallee burl - I really like how this came up - the photo doesn't really do it justice.
The four-pack were gifts -
2 x Macassar Ebony
and
2 x Purple Heart Acacia

I have had some problems with Sedona assembly - have others? The small spacer ring that sits above the pattern ring and before the timber has a tendency to get caught between the brass tube and the timber. I've had a few lids fail because of this.
Still a lovely pen visually (and functionally)...

Very well done mate. The Red Mallee is a ripper. Kit goes very well with the blank.

All look very good from here ! . One of the times a drill press is an advantage for assembly with things like Sedonas ,as all things are vertical and the little silver ring on the Sedona stays in line by gravity .Cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Followed your journey in pens and the pics show a lot of care and respect for the kits and material with a great result.
Then I wandered in tio your web site and the very mention of family history and as my family all immigrated to Australia in the 1840 s to Victoria and Sth Australia as family names often turn up links. one of our daughters has written several books on my wifes and my family. The latest one on my Dads Mums ten generations pre arrival in Portland Vic down to me and mine. This book was printed set up free by Ancestry.com.They sell you the books and allow other family members to purchase as well. The book is the best I have ever seen on acid free 200 gsm paper, all pics in colour pics my daughter made and these days most Churches in England have their own web sites C/W pics and historical stuff. Our copy leather bound cost around 50 bucks a couple of years ago.The family came from Cornwall to Portland.
I observed your moving in and wattle in full flower description well go to this web addy
www.woodnworkshop.com.au the owner Bruce Haggie a friend from many years just Nth of Brisbane has gone from Band Sawn Boxes unbelievable to Pens. He had a stall at the recent WWW Show here in Canberra, he had literally hundreds of different cast blanks he makes and designs them all himself. One I got is called Wattle and they all have wow factor. I have glued up the Wattle and will take a pic before and after to put on the forum soon it shows all the potential of real Wattle.
Just realised prob boring the site but see excitement in so many things I like to share.

Well done, looks good.
I've never had a problem assembling, but as Gawdelpus says, if you use a press and the pen is vertical, it just sits where it should.

Look great!
I can't actually believe the timing. I'm in the process of making a purpleheart Gold Sedona as a gift for a friend, finished with Rustins. I was searching for people who'd done it before. I hope mine turns out half as good
How did you go with the Rustins? What process did you use and how long did it take? It (and purpleheart) as a first for me. I decided to use it as it doesn't introduce any heat...
Cheers,
Dave...but together with the coffee civility flowed back into him

Looking good
If I understand correctly you are having troble with the trim ring. If it isgetting caught then the ring is being fitted in reverse me thinks. What say you?
See assembly instructions here http://www.arizonasilhouette.com/Pen...2004-Model.pdf

No - the plated trim ring, because it is very thin and light, has a tendenacy to move around when I assemble. If it doesn't sit properly, it wedges under timber and can even split it. I suspect the pen press will do a better job than my method (vice press), but even still, its somewhat of a weakness in the design.
I really like the sedonas though - visually, they're very attractive without overly distracting from the timber... a nice balance.Shane Magrath
