Someone mentioned on another site that my method is not the way they would have thought to do this pen design. My answer is simple. There are so many different ways to do the things we do making any type pen design or even the very basic pen blank. You do what you feel is the most confortable with and use the tools you have. The whole idea is have fun and continue to think outside the box. I can not stress this enough. we as pen turners are artisans. We need to push ourselves to make the difficult projects look easy. It does not matter if you have seen a design over and over and over again, take that design and add your touch and make it better or at least different. Sometimes it is as simple as using different medium to do the same pattern.

Yes segments are cut many ways. My way of doing this I used a router jig I made to be used on my wood lathe. I am sure if I had a metal lathe I could use some sort of attachment that is designed just for metal lathes.

As far as sanding goes, there was not one bit of sanding done till I went and completed the CA finish.

Hope this inspire others to give it a try whatever method you use. Just work safe.

Wow great work. I'm too worried about my fingers/eyes/face etc and too hopeless at making jigs to do things that precise.

    Well done.

any chance of a picture of that jig being posted? I am truly intrigued. I like doing segments and have only been at this since March 2011.
