Thread: Sierra letter opener in Aus?

Ok Nick in the mean time get yourself a Sierra kit.
I have looked at the kit assembly instructions,
Yes the brass tube and the bit that holds it in is threaded. I reckon the thread in the brass tube is going to be the same size as if your screwing or pushing the pen tip in.
You can use any timber to put the blade into the tube a bit either side a bit of CA will hold it in. Turn a nice bit up that will slide into and protrude to finish it off. Dont forget a slit for the Tang to go through
Oh how I wish I had a metal lathe although to make the fancy lock ring could be done on a wood lathe just as easy

I have just looked at the letter openers an agree they do look great and as far as I know the only way we will get them here is by getting them from Brett. The problem is getting anything at all from arazona Silohette is they wont ship here. You need a US contact and my final comment is did you check out the price of them just for a letter opener ? I don't know about you but gee there a bit steep in price @ $11.00 US each
But yes they do look good
Cheers Ian

Why not make the knife blade yourself? It looks really straightforward.
I used an old plane blade ...
The steel does not need to be hardened for a letter opener, so if grinding softens the temper, don't worry about it.

Derek
that looks like a really nice letter opener
You have made me rethink - I ws going for the handle accoutrement match
maybe all I need to do is match the timber with a little chrome here and there
hmm
thanks

I'm not keen on the blade shape of the Sierra much but maybe it works ok.
