    Default Slimline tube length

    Good Afternoon ladies and Gentlemen

Had a new batch of Slimlines that I purchased probably 6 months ago, probably from Timberbits. Need some so thought I would glue them up ready. I thought the new tubes looked longer so I mentioned them. They are 55mm long versus the 50 mm I remember.
    • Does this mean that the twist mechanism doesn't go in as far?
    • Do I need to trim them further?
    • Any other issues?
    • Any else found this?

    Cheers
    Willy

the tubes i have for slims are 53mm

when installing the mechanism just keep checking with the insert to get it to the optimal position

If the tubes are longer than standard (different from each supplier I think) the mechanism will need to be pressed in a bit further ,you can lay out the parts as it would be assembled ,nib tube and the refill next to the finished tube put the mechanism extended with the refill in place and compare where it will line up when assembled ,this should give you an idea of how far you need to press the mechanism. mark it with a textra if neccessary ,press it together a bit short of the mark ,test how far the refill comes out the nib, and gradually increase the distance till you get the fitting you want ,sounds a bit fiddly but doesn't take a lot of time cheers ~ John

I don't have any slimlines but I do have a lot of streamlines. All have 53 mm tubes including those that I got from Timberbits last week.

As MIK said, just press the mechanism in until the refill is in the right position or you could trim 2 mm off each tube. The kit should work either way.

Thanks for the feedback and advice
I shall continue to be careful when pressing in the mechanism
