Something New
I was a bit intrigued by these so bought one to have a look , I think it would be a great beginner kit for slims and streamlines before you fill your workshop with all the tools we tend to gather, in this case no need for a press or vice or guesswork , or dismantling tools for those "oops" moments . The kit simply screws together ,the nib, the activator ,and the clip all screw into the tubes , so assembly and dismantling is very simple and no tools needed. Of course I am looking to see what else they can be used for, maybe some of the bullet pens I do I just done some pictures of the components without turning a pen at this time , but looks like a worthwhile upgrade of the good old slims cheers ~ John ( From Rizheng)

Hmm, but what stops it unscrewing when you twist the pen in and out?

Neil ! I guess nothing except the tightness of the fine thread, but it's exactly the same as a cigar pen system ,and they seem alright except for operator mishandling cheers ~ John

Les it's a chinese supplier ,here's a link to their site ,you need to create an account to log in ,they have a lot of goodies at cheap prices, but downside is they use couriers for delivery so a bit expensive if you are not careful with amount of items ,they also use Paypal only , quality is ok and very reliable service I have found cheers John

Thanks for posting this John. I love the concept of threaded components. There is some real potential there.
My biggest hate is having to pull the top section of a pen off to replace the refill, I have no trouble doing it, but some customers seems to cause them problems. And anyway, I think it looks unprofessional and dodgy especially on a pen they are paying $50 - $100 for, maybe OK for a $15-$20 slimline at the markets, but not on something I am trying to promote as a high quality item.
Much better to be able to tell them to unscrew the nib ( as long as its a quality thread)
Some of my customers just bring their pen back to me to replace the refill, because they have had trouble. I like this i guess, because I can see how the pen is wearing.
Well thats my rant for the day, sorry if I have upset anyoneBrad.

Unfortunately Brad this style using a cross refill doesn't allow you to change the refill by unscrewing the nib end, the cross refill screws into the activator mechanism as with all cross type refills, now if a spring could be installed at the nib and push the refill back when retracted ,that would work same as almost all parker style refills then . Hmmmm ` cheers ~ John
But just thinking , you could change the refill from the nib by unscrewing it and just pulling the refill out of the plastic threaded holder and push in a new one .Last edited by gawdelpus; 9th April 2014 at 06:35 PM. Reason: additional info

How does the price of the kit compare to what we pay locally for a normal Slimline?

The individual price per item is $1-37 US. But they have a minium postage rate of $25 US which comes via courier so only a few days waiting time, for these you can get 18 kits within that postage so for 18 = $49.66 approx. I have not looked at local slimlines for a few years, but most postage from our local retailers seem in the order of 10-12 dollars which of course needs to be considered ,but you can get a lot more weight in a local parcel for the same dollars.
Hope that helps a bit,
And I checked refill replacement, can be changed from the nib end, which would probably appeal to those who make the one piece slims or streamlines ,not made any so not sure , cheers ~ JohnG'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Had some books to drop off to John earlier in the week.
Couldn't stay long but he showed me that kit. It looks pretty robust and well enough manufactured.
Be interesting to see if they have other kits with screw thread parts. Would add a new dimension to the game.
