Default Spring Blossom/Roman Harvest comfortable in use?

    Hey folks, long time...

I have an order for 4 pens for brothers in BOW, but make them all slightly different. I have done Baron & Jr Gent 2 for other family members before. So I'm trying to find 4 different styles in good quality finishes, at max $20 per kit.

I have a Gold Ti & Rhodium Sedona, although they're not quite as "manly" as the other kits. I also have another Jr Gent 2, but can't decide on the other(s).

Was looking at the Spring Blossom & Roman Harvest styles, which look nice from the outside, but what's the go with the nib end? Both styles have big bulgy bits on them that from the pictures look like they would be rather uncomfortable to hold, particularly the Roman Harvest, as it looks like it has a sharp edge right where your fingers would press (for people like me, who hold close to the point anyway). Could anyone who has used these please comment on their comfort level?

    Thanks.
    Russell.

I have used a Roman Harvest that I made for my wife and found it very comfortable. I hold it right in the concave section back from the end and it feels just right. I was only commenting yesterday how good it felt to write with.

I've got a few Roman Harvest and found them comfortable to hold. The only problem is if they intend to carry them around in their shirt pockets, they might be a bit heavy and long. The Sn pen is the same. Maybe the JR Gent, Baron or Cigar Americana if they are going to be work horses. Check out the Timberbit website to see them all displayed.

G'day Russell. I think the most 'Manly' and classy looking pen is these Pen Making :: Rollerball and Fountain Pen Kits :: Gentleman's Pen Kits - Premium Plating - Pen Kits, Pen blanks, Clock Kits and wood turning accessories.

I have made about a dozen so far, and have some more on their way up here at the moment. No actual Bling as such, just a very natural, beefy pen that looks great with 20 coats of CA and polished.

    Thanks for the info guys.

I didn't realise the Blossom/harvest pair were extra large, so that could be an issue.

I did consider those Gentlemens pens, but it's $23 with the premium platings, and I was trying to budget $20 max, as there is a ceiling on the final price. Might be the way to go though.

The Jr Retro looks good, but I was looking for an Aussie supplier due to time constraints, which I havent found. Is the someone local supllying them that I've missed? They're a bit like the Jr Marshalls that GPW sell, but at $40 that's way over the budget.

I wish they'd bring back the Baron's in quality finishes. I dunno why they seem to have disappeared and become a cheap chrome/gold only pen. They were always my favourite and best seller.

The Jr Retro is available at Timberbits and GPW, just called a different name.
Timberbits also have the Baron in gold titanium.

I do agree about the lack of quality platings on some kits though, I would rather pay a couple of dollars more, than have someone come back complaining about the plating coming off the pen I sold them.
They cheaper platings do have their place, dont get me wrong. I just dont like to use them on any pen that I sell.

I guess that's the Jr Victor then? Postable $21, which is probably why i skipped past it initially

Missed that one too, and the price is right. However, I've had problems with these Baron II's before in Chrome, where the thread has ripped when the lid was screwed on, so I've been a little gun-shy on them. Also, while I don't have a problem with the gold, the customer has expressed they feel the gold is a little feminine, although I'm still going to offer them a choice of gold titanium styles if they want their variety.

Yes, when I started, 24K gold was the standard, and any of the titanium/platinum coatings were on the $50+ kits. I have a couple of my everyday pens (streamlines & Sierras) in 24K gold and they wore down to die-cast grey pretty quickly. I don't want my customers coming back with that result. It's funny how 10K gold is now the cheap "premium" gold plating. I understand why, but he common man does not equate 10K > 24K.

It's good those coatings are now available on more kits, but the gap seems to have widened where the smaller kits have become "el-cheapo", and the bigger kits have become the quality platings. Since when does size=quality? I'd love to see more small-medium kits in premium coatings.

    Thanks for the help.
