    Default SSSnake Wood

This timber is very rewarding for me,however it is the toughest I have ever drilled it is so tight.Turning initially for me was like turning glued sand until the square is cut to round then quite good.

The blanks were tightly cut some time ago, drilled, set aside for a while then glued, set aside awhile, turned with a lovely appearance.

Yes I have heard and read extensively about the negative, found out for myself as I always do and I am very happy.

Never tried Snakewood myself due to all the negative comments it gets, but sure is tempting due to the fantastic figure, like the forbidden fruit! lol

Excellent work and the shape is lovely Peter!

Very nice! I have a shop full of this stuff. I find it drills rather easily and turns nice too with sharp tools. It achieves a remarkable luster with just micromesh polishing. However - I have yet to turn one of these that did not develop a crack after a month or two. They start as very fine longitudinal cracks and, within two more weeks, they have completely split so that I can see the brass tube. I keep buying the stuff because it really is beautiful and I get it very cheaply, but apparently I do not know how to work it.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Good work Peter. Snakewood is well worth the effort with extra patience; it doesn't like heat.
