Default Stick Fact CA Glue Finishing Bushings

Does anyone in Australia sell the Stick Fact CA Glue Finishing Bushings or a similar product?

I just placed an order with WoodTurningz (USA), but really don't want to have to do it again for just this one product and pay international postage again.
It seems like a great concept for anyone who has ever turned a pen with CA - the nervous bit at the end, trying to get the pen blank loose from the bushings.

    Simon.

Same here. Made some from acetal (delrin). It's discussed in several threads.

i use these centres Metalworking Dead Centre : CARBA-TEC and Carba-Tec® Economy Live Centres : CARBA-TEC and coat them with
silicone spray as that way the blanks dont stick to the metal , will try and take pic sunday as helping a member with creating their pens for the swap

    Default My method

I got a set of them from the good ol US of A and found they last very little time. In other words waste of money.
I stick to the bushes that are used for the relevant blank. Use a sharp knife to break the end seal.
When the bushes are off I then have a jar with Acetone and soak them. After a couple of minutes the bushes are ready after wipe to use again.
Just the way I do it. After all I have the time to take my time.

    Hi Simon,

I also made mine from Delrin but like Cookie I find they don't last that long. However, if you buy some delrin rod then it doesn't take long to turn up another set. So if you wanted to go with these I would buy a rod of delrin from a local supplier and then turn up a number of sets in one go. It doesn't take too long.

    Cheers,

    Graeme

Don't use steel or you will just complicate the problem by it gluing to the tube. Spraying silicone on the steel is not a solution. Google delrin plugs and you will find them for around $10 a set in the USA with very cheap postage.

Nothing wrong with those bushings but once you add in frieght from the US, not worth it. I bought an off cut of round HDPE rod for $4 and turned my own. They work fine. The CA builds up slightly but a soak in acetone cleans them up.

The larger tubed pens work best as any CA between the tube and bushing is well away from the wood and thin, just snaps at the intersection of tube and bushing. 7mm tubed pens usually need the CA to be scored/cut as the bushing butts up against the tube and wood.

I use acetal (Delrin) bushes as well, but I make a matching set of No Mandrel Buhes for each kit I use

    https://www.woodworkforums.com/f69/no...ishing-123004/

Usually when I buy a new kit I haven't used before I make a set of SS No Mandrel Bushes as well as an acetal set for finishing and usuallu a Closed End Mandrel as well.

Here is a set of all these for the Churchill kit

BTW Aldi are selling these storage drawers again this Saturday. I already have 4 sets and will probably get some more, very handy for all the pen paraphernalia and pen parts.

ALDI - special buys from sat 09 feb - hurry, limited stocks in store*

You will find it hard to go past Fred's no mandrel bushes. Didn't know Fred made the acetal sets but I use his SS bushes and they are great. No more problems with bent mandrels producing off centre oval blanks.

I just use a pair of pliers gentle on the delrin to remove any built up CA. Its quick and easily breaks away.

You can also use the cheap (or old ) plastic type cutting boards, to make the bushes from ,the older thicker style is best at least 12 mm , simply cut into small blocks and drill a 1/4 " hole through the middle ,stack a few on your mandrel and turn round as big as the material will allow , then with a skew you can cut them to tapers , one thing to always do is with the sharp point of a skew gently break the bond just past the end of the blank you have ca'd , this stops the ca cracking up the blank when you try to remove it , I usually do this before finish sanding so I have a clean end to sand to Cheers ~ John

I do what John does, make my bushes out of 13mm polyethylene chopping board. I also use the polyethylene bushes for sanding.

As an aside, WoodTurningz increased postage at the end of January. The US Postal Service increased the flat rate envelope they use by $7.00.
