Thread: Sticky blank

Is the stickiness just on the surface and once you turn that away it may be hard underneath. When you cast blanks they often come out sticky on the surface but okay inside.

Blank is rock hard, just slightly sticky to touch. Not sticky enough to pick up upside down. I'll cut and prepare a section tomorrow and see how it turns.

Hi Everyone,

Blank turned out fine. A chip broke off during drilling but managed to glue back on with no obvious effects. Seems to happen just as the drill tip breaks through the end of the blank. Looks more like the Milky Way than a collection of glitter. Certainly won't look out of place on Executive daughters desk.IMG_0239.jpg

Good to see it turned out okay. When drilling acrylic blanks it is a good idea to leave them longer than you need and drill so if it does break a bit off you will be cutting back behind that section. Another option is to leave it long and not drill right through the end so there is no chance of chipping out, then just cut it at the length you require.

I agree with Dallas regard cutting over long but only drill to a depth equal to the length of the tube plus a little more do not break through then remeasure and cut just a bit longer than the tube and cut off the closed end this will leave a clean hole with no break out.
I also allow a bit extra as sometimes where the drill enters can be slightly enlarged. This is great for single tubed pens
For two part pens all drilling should be done from the centre outwards so as to keep any pattern lined up
