Sorry John, close but no cigar, Boiled not Burnt Actually what you want to look for is Pale Boiled Linseed Oil. Bunnies stock it under the Diggers brand.
I'll shut up now

Glad you said that mate!
Checked out the video...interesting stuff....
Is CV available at bunnies too, or am I looking at a specialty place?
Cheers!

Hehe ! I think you may mean CA short for cyanoacrylate or Super glue . Freely available all over the place bunnies will have it lots of different sizes and thicknesses ,Thin will be your initial startup, but comes in medium and thick as well and larger bottles than available in hardware stores . You can get it from most of the kit suppliers on line as well , and once you get into that as a finish you will need the bigger sizes lol. I don,t use BLO as a finish too often so can not offer much in the way of advice in those matters , good luck with it ,wear protective gloves as it gets hot and can burn if not careful, when you pick up your BLO get some Acetone as well for cleanups or unsticking things that should not be stuck together ( fingers mainly) cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

This is a link to an interesting video of applying a CA/BLO finish by one of our Canadian friends. Looks quite easy to achieve a good finish.

Very cool!...........very cool!
I like the idea of being able to mix up finishes between high gloss and eau naturale!
Amazing what a bit of glue can do!
Time to experiment!

Right.........managed to find some CA glue and bits last weekend.
CA glue wasn't at bunnies...had to go out to Carbatec..... I like Carbatec, but spend too much money!
Anyhow, this is 10 coats of CA and BLO, no accelerator.
Cut with some beaut polish ez shine and polished finally with shellawax.
Getting happier with my results...only had one set of blanks that I buggered up.
Also a big supporter of using a bit of wax on the ends of the blank when on the mandrill.
It makes separation heaps easier!
Have a few more slims to finish, but I'm eying off some sierras and cigar pens.

That's your first CA finish???
I'm impressed!
It does take your hands away from the wood a bit, but if you sell pens, people seem to
like glossy. If is definitely the more durable finish of those available. But you can also
apply a few less coats and cut it back with 0000 steel wool if you like a finish that is
closer to 'natural'. If you apply it with a slower lathe speed and use Thin CA, you can
even avoid some of the gap filling that CA is good at. That will allow some of the feel of
the grain to come out. But it's tricky..
Nice job!

Cheers mate!
I like the hints!....glossy seems to be what people like, but I prefer the natural finish that comes with sanding, and cutting.
Sounds like a good idea with the thin glue and the slower lathe speed...I think I'll give that a go with 0000 steel wool.
Many thanks!

Graman.. If you are adverse to giving your money to Carba-tec, try David at timberbits a go.He is now stocking medium CA at a reasonable price..
Once I finish my current stock I shall be getting mine from him
KevI try and do new things twice.. the first time to see if I can do it.. the second time to see if I like it
