Default VicMarc VL850 Lathe does it have standard motor? OR Induction Motor?

    Hello Folks,

    I am still alive!

I need to know if the VICMARC VL850 uses an Induction Motor or Non Induction Universal motor. I know it is Single Phase, but need to know what kind of motor??

After searching the net, this is the simplest explanation.

A lathe motor would be an induction motor.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

You'd be better off with a VFD. Probably cheaper too.

The VL850's are a pretty old machine and the motor will more than likely have a centrifugal switch. If you're planing on buying a new motor I would be looking at an inverter and VFD instead.

Josh, would centrifugal switch interfere with Induction Speed Controller? Amos

Yep. It actually says on the information page for the Jaycar kit.

    - Project does not work for motors with centrifugal switch

Morning mate did you check with Vicmarc he must be close to where you live. I prefer to use a three phase motor, most people run from them even (they sell cheap) in this city three phase into the workshop is unusual. When I bought the VL150 not so long ago I bought the first new motor ever separately and this controller. I am sure you could build your own controller. As usual overkill nearly 2 hp Motor.

Have a great christmas being still alive I am a year out from my dreadful Cancer year in 2015 Wilma four years now from her near loss.

    Kind regards Peter.
