    Default Walnut burl slimline

I posted this on the IAP, but thought folks in Oz who don't look there might like to see it. It is black walnut burl, with some opps .. ahem .. accent rings of tulip wood. I used the Enduro finish for the first time. I like the result, in spite of the overnight curing time. Hardware is TiN.
    Thanks for looking!

I like the pen, well turned as usual, I don't know if the tulipwood pieces take away from the mature distinct look of that beautiful walnut? Amos

Amos, those are always tough decisions for me. The walnut was fragile enough to need the rings, but what to use was a problem. Perhaps I should have used a darker , less contrating wood than tulip wood, or one less figured - maybe a maple or a boxwood. Dunno.
    Thanks for the compliment.

No matter what you do, you won't make everyone happy. Personally, I like the tulipwood bands, as the reddish hue breathes a bit of "warmth" into the pen. I can't see any figuring in it (the tulipwood) in the pix... maybe I need an optometrist? But it looks a good match to me.

My whinge is about the unequal sizes of them... no luck in making your oops's the same size, eh?
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Doc Ron a well turned and finished pen, Walnut Burl and Walnut for that matter is beautiful anytime. I am in agreeance with Skew in regards to the bands being the same size, those that know me, symmetry is what I like in a slimline. The Tulipwood is nice as a contrast, but instead of maple or boxwood I would go the other way and look at African Blackwood or Ebony as a contrast for a more strong look to the pen.

    Hi Doc,
Great looking pen. For me, the use of the Tulip Wood is interesting. I like using the black enamel kits with walnut burl just because it makes the walnut stand out brighter. I think that is even more so with the non high-gloss finish. Of course, that is just my personal taste.
The great thing about pen turning is that you can be creative and try new things. I applaud anybody's attempt at being creative. Well done!

    Cheers,

    Rick
