    Default Wet blank warping

Can anyone give any advice as to how to prevent blanks from warping. I have cut some timber which into lengths perfect for blanks, 20x20 but kept the 400 length. They felt cold to the touch so I feel the wood might still be wet. the blanks were cut Wednesday and I have noticed it's already starting to warp and skew.

my question is - is there anything I can do to prevent the lengths warping any further, either by holding in a jig or press or any other form of preventative?

    Thanks.

You can try and "sticker" them. Put 4 or 5 on a shelf side by side evenly spaced apart. Put another layer across the first. Like a stack of Jenga pieces. Continue layering until you have a stack that isn't wobbly and put a heavy weight on a board on top. Or you could use a ratchet strap if you can get it around the shelf. Now you wait until they are dry. Use the warped ones for single tube pens.

Thanks Pete,, but I didn't make that many. I have 2 (cut from a piece of olive wood found in the off-cut bin at the workshop).

I now have them running side by side, and clamped them both into the base corner of a wooden mitre box to keep straight, clamped top and sides, so hopefully this does the trick. I hope I am not too late due to the slight warping already, I'm hoping I may have got to it early and can correct hats happened or atleast prevent any further warping.

I wouldn't worry too much. Let them dry and then once cut to length you will still be able to drill centrally. It doesn't matter what the outside looks like provided you can drill straight for the tube.

Next time though don't cut them so small, should cut them at least 25sq to allow for movement

I dry mine in the roof with a fan 24/7 blowing through there are many Olive Blanks in this lot. I select a small stack and weigh them noting the weight to tell if they are drying.
