What wood is it? Maple or Pine?
Just finished this Sierra Vista in Xcut Pine or Maple, I think it is pine, and I know it is not Huon because it was tougher to turn than Huon. It smelt nice like pine, If you think you know please let me know.
The pen is Sierra Vista. The feauture on the end was not done during turning, but during drilling. once again hope you like it. AmosGood, better, best, never let it rest;

I am fairly sure now it is Xcut Huon, because I had Huon to cut up and no other, just blew up two xcuts in a row right near the end stages, I will need to use CA on the next one, they were very beautiful blanks too!, Amos

It is Curly Maple from USA I think.
I could not rest , so I cut up some Huon and compared it with what I showed in the 1st post, and it is not Huon, then I looked through a box of wood that Cisco had sent me and found some of the same in it, I think it is Curly Maple; He said it didn't blow out, but that is with the grain, not across, I am going to give it one more go. No, it is not Curly Maple!
Just prepared some of that wood, and it is not curly maple, so Huon is the closest guess thus far. Amos (I know I am talking to myself here) thought i would let you hear it!Amos

not huon, maple, or cypress. Certainly a pinus spp, Amos, I cant understand why you waste your time on blanks like that?
everything is something, for a reason:confused:

Rowie, if you had seen the beautiful pattern on the second one I blew up you would cry, I looked for more of the same but didn't have any, still haven't given up, it may be off a log that i just need to cut more off. Amos

I would have thought it was too soft, and not enough rings. Its the resin glands that give it that flakey look.could be ponderosa pine. Amos, I do commend you highly for your eagerness to persist ( and get some very good results) with blanks like that, but all I seem to see lately is you having probs with blow outs etc. If you send me your address(via PM of course), I will send you some stuff worthy of your talents.
