Inspired by Bdar This marathon turning effort finished last night. I searched the world for A tooth found them in Siberia and above Canada. Chose one from Canada it came in three weeks, fastest ever from there. It had been coated with plastic ,thats scary, why but turned out great. Apparently according to the Owner of the Mineshaft down town here do everything dry as water can be deleterious to molars inside. He has six staff working out of Thailand and one in Bali who work with these all the time only using wood lathes and conventional tools.
Trepidation justified but it cut with a small bandsaw clean as a whistle, see above.Chose a one piece pen to learn with from Signature pens in the UK best way rather than the UK main man Phil Dart ,saves all the double price from over there. Bought Artu Drill, nearest I could get was 3/8 inch wanted 27/64 so the makers of Artu recommend not using small up to the finish sizes. I drilled it ok the light coloured bands are pure silicon so its smooth then tough drilling. I then followed it up easy with a conventional steel drill 27/64.
Facing the end of the blanks a pain in the bum but bonce squared I left the final trim after turning. The turning was done by hand with an Easy Tool using the square four faced 15mm cutters in tough steel. It took me most of four hours. every now and then I removed the cutters and placed them face down on a Diamond file for a few rubs only using the one cutter with four faces for the job. this pen kit has a narrow tip and top ie to me and I turned the blank to retain as much strength as I could after all it could be up to 20.000 yrs old.
There it is and for me not before time.
Kind regards Peter.
Anyway the sphinctor factor is extreme but worth the effort.Nil Desperandum

Now Peter that is history right there. Once again you have made an amazing masterpiece with something so unique. The colours of the tooth match the plating well. You respect the medium being used and time that was taken has been rewarded in what we see here. Amazing work as always my friend [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
