20 ft beam to support rafters in detached garage
Hello
I have a 20'x20' detached garage with 2x4 studs and rafters 24" o.c. The rafters are supported by a 2x12 beam (red) which is supported in the middle by a 4x4 strut (purple). The beam wasn't connected to the rafters, nor did the beam or rafters have seat cuts where they contact. The rafters are sagging and have caused the beam to warp towards the front of the garage.

I would like to replace the beam with a new one and eliminate the 4x4 strut. Does anyone have any idea about the size of the new beam (spanning 20 ft), timber or LVL, and how its support members are to be integrated with existing framing?
Here is how I think it might look. The new beam (red) is perpendicular to the rafters (green) and supported by two (or more) sandwiched 2x8s (orange) which have seat cuts to rest the beam on at an angle. Would this work?

Thanks
