Hi,

I live in a strata title unit complex in Brisbane. It's a 4 storey brick building. One of the units in our block was recently purchased by a young bloke who has been doing some renovation work. Today I discovered that he has knocked out part of a wall that supports a lintel in his kitchen. He did not seek any approval from the body corporate or tell anyone what he was planning to do, he just went ahead and did it. The body corporate are now scrambling to work out what on earth to do. To satisfy us, he needs to have this checked out and signed off on by a suitably qualified structural engineer (who at least has some professional indemnity insurance behind them). Somebody also mentioned to me that he may actually need approval from Brisbane City Council if he is making structural changes to a strata title unit as well. Can anyone offer any advice guidance on what needs to be done to make this all above board?

Many thanks,

Dan
